Tell Me about Your Self(ie)

As a young adult in the age of technology, selfies are big component of my life and self-identity. They are essentially a snapshot of who I was in that exact moment. So, who was I in these 3 pictures above? Is it the same person I am now?

In these pictures, I am smiling, laugh, and I’m with friends. These were all taken in the moment, not with any intentions other than to say that I was having a good time and thought I looked nice. I took the time to get dressed up and do my hair and makeup, and I wanted to remember a moment. You can see that I value and take pride in how I look.

All of these selfies are highly feminized in the traditional sense of me being woman who likes to do her hair, makeup, and get dressed up — being a woman and showcasing my feminity in that way is an integral part of my identity. These three selfies here were all taken before going out with my friends somewhere; this is usually when I feel the most feminine, when I get to dress up and spend time with people that I love. Showcasing my friends in these pictures also shows how much I value them, and other women in my life.

Some people say that girls take too many selfies. I say they don’t take enough. Let people call you shallow, vain, or anything else. I call it confidence, appreciation, and art. Immortalize these moments, your striking feminity, and post them everywhere (even if your eyes are closed because you’re smiling so hard).
