Our bodies have been designed to eat sustainable food since people were created, but today food is grown in ways that are unsustainable. This becomes a problem when our food becomes increasingly genetically modified and livestock is grown purely for profit without regard to wellbeing. Consumers play the biggest role when it comes to sustainable eating, but many people aren’t sure what it means or how to go about it. Eating sustainably is good for a surplus of things: our bodies, the soil, the animals, supporting local economies and the farmers responsible for the food. You can take steps to eat sustainably by buying local, in season foods. Sustainable eating takes more effort than usual but there are many rewards that come with it.
