#BlacklivesMatter was founded in 2013, their mission is to eradicate white supremacy. They also want to build local power not tolerate in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. This movement is working towards a world that no longer systematically targeted Black lives. Not only is black lives matter changing the public view but it is also changing the government for the greater good of our country. They want the people to hear them but also the government to hear them.
Systemic racism has been a persistent problem. Throughout the 17th and 18th century African Americans were treated less than an average white man. African Americans were put to work as slaves; they were paid nothing and treated horribly. Martin Luther King Jr.; the leader of the civil rights movement fought for social equality of every African American. The world started to improve but the issue was hidden behind a shadow. MLK’s dream started to become a reality but throughout the years, morality has decreased. Racism has yet again proven it never went away.
Citizens have the right to their own opinion, they choose their side or stay neutral. The ability to make their own decisions is what makes The United States so unique but it also can make controversy within the country. Understanding Black Lives Matter sparks opinions like “blue lives matter” or “all lives matter ‘’’. All lives do matter but when lives are being taken away because of someone’s race, that is why “Black Lives Matter” People who disagree with the movement have the right to their own opinion but staying neutral can provide more of an issue than taking the opposing side. With people not voicing their opinions, there is a lack of support to show the total issue. The focus should be on social equality; people who have darker skin are being treated as a threat and not as an equal citizen.
Social justice, equality, and no police brutality; a world we wish existed. Black lives matter is devoting their movement to make that dream come true. Changing the world needs every single voice to make the change. Black Lives Matter is inspiring people to follow their footsteps and fight for social equality.
