Interpretation is an interesting topic because it is the most subjective thing out there. One may say that grass is green, a color-blind person may say that the grass is red, and to one who is completely blind, there is no grass at all. Interpretation is what our mind values and uses to make the world around us. Every thought we have is based on interpretations we gather that are completely unique to only ourselves, and mold our worldview. Interpretation is everything. As said in the reading, “there are no facts, only interpretations.” Humanity labels different phenomena as fact if it is commonly agreed upon information, but again, everything is simply what we interpret of it. There is no such thing as objectiveness in our world. Everything can be argued and thus, everything can be an interpretation. The only reason we think of things to be true or false is due to the fact that some things are largely agreed upon by others, thus having an interpretation shared among many. Interpretation is also interesting in that it can divide us. Our interpretation of life, of what defines success, of what one should do in life is all influenced by our surroundings. Race, gender, nationality, and religion can all influence one’s interpretation of life and meaning, subsequently leading to divides within humanity. It is due to this that interpretation can often fuel conflict. In wars, conflict over differing interpretations of how to further develop humanity can result in the death of thousands. Overall, interpretation is what divides us, but at the same time is what makes us all unique from one another. Interpretation is why there is no “good” or “bad,” rather only different opinions that may be shared by plenty, or shared by few.
