Dana Leger was born and raised in Morris County, New Jersey, and couldn’t be more of a Jersey Girl. She works as a waitress at the Chester Diner and has been serving for three years. She loves her dog, Bear, and frequently takes her on hikes. Family is important to her, and she tries to always find time to bond with her parents and sisters. On multiple occasions, she has traveled to Graniti, Sicily with her Nonna to visit her extended family. The most recent occurrence was in the summer of 2014, where she realized her love for culture, language, and writing. Once she returned from her month in her home away from home, she craved yet another European adventure. Eventually, on Christmas Day, she found Florida State University’s First Year Abroad (FYA) program. She knew immediately that 12 months abroad was exactly what she needed to satisfy her hunger for knowledge, and submitted an application that very same day.

Flash-forward eight months later, and Dana found herself moving into an apartment in Florence, Italy with about 40 other Florida State students. With the exception of winter break, she will be residing in Florence for eight months, and then continuing her journey to Valencia, Spain for an additional three months during the summer of 2016. Currently having lived in Florence for about three months, she’s made countless memories with friends, traveling to places like Frankfurt, Germany and Prague, Czech Republic. She hopes to backpack more during the spring and summer, and definitely is bringing a journal or two along for the ride as well. Long term, she would love to become a freelance travel writer specializing in European cultures, and later she would like to begin traveling to Asia and Africa with the hopes of one day studying indigenous cultures. Eventually, her goal is to one day become an explorer for National Geographic’s Traveler magazine, and regularly write for them as well.
