When life gets you down, that’s when Sadness takes over.

What does “get someone down” mean?

“Get someone down” means to be sad or depressed about something happening in life.

When “life gets you down,” it means to be feeling sad because of a certain situation that happened. Every day life (working a job, maintaining friendships, being in a romantic relationship, having children, etc.) is extremely difficult and can make anyone feel sad due to how hard it is.

For example, if I lost my job, I would feel sad and depressed. Life would get me down because of losing my job. This can be said about almost any life situation.
