Engramo — now Charles University Faculty of Arts-approved
Engramo English has been created and is maintained by experts in English linguistics — linguists, professors, teachers, translators, native speakers and combinations of these roles. We are constantly making sure that the quality of our product is the best it can be and the best on the market. One way to do so is through internal testing and reviewing the content, as anyone would guess. But we wanted more. We wanted an independent expert opinion.
So, earlier this year, we reached out to the Faculty of Arts of Charles University and asked them to go through our English course and check if everything in it is up to their quality standards. We made it clear that the review should be carried out by experts on the English language and that these experts should not be associated with Engramo (after all, our team of collaborators includes a number of CU FoA alumni, researchers and professors). The reviewers were asked to rely on their academic and pedagogic knowledge when identifying criteria during the quality assessment.
Over the course of the reviewing process, we have received the praise we yearned for, as well as a few specific suggestions, all of which are now included in the latest version of our app. To give you an example of what would come up, we have discussed the fact that Engramo does not explain the wrong options in exercises, which is a design choice aimed at teaching what’s correct, not what’s wrong. The reviewer then concluded that this is a strong argument — especially with cognitive psychology in mind — and that the incorrect options always stand in contrast to the correct ones and their explanations.
The exercises and grammar book have — to our great joy — been found to meet the Faculty’s high teaching standards.
With the testing and reviewing complete, we can now proudly announce that the Faculty of Arts of Charles University guarantees the quality of Engramo English as a scientifically accurate account of English, the language of global trade, diplomacy and science — and as a way to teach it.
We are grateful for the effort they put into the testing and for the endorsement we have received.
