Once a year, talented game industry professionals from across the globe come together to check out cutting-edge game development products created by some of the world’s most innovative companies.

They all travel to the modern-day Rome of technological innovation to attend the largest game industry event on Earth.

Last year, Enjin’s first trek to this event was a massive success. We demoed our minimum viable products, introduced thousands of game developers to our ecosystem, met more than a few of our current early adopter developers, made valuable business connections—and had a ton of fun doing it.

This year, we hope to do 10 times better.

Thus, we are delighted to announce that Enjin is going to GDC 2019.

Summary

📍 Enjin Platform: We got our old spot back! The Enjin booth is in the same place as 2018 (Booth S563). There, we’ll be demoing the Enjin Platform—a blockchain PaaS (Platform as a Service)—as well as other parts of the Enjin ecosystem (Explorer, Wallet, Beam).

🎮 Early Adopters Game Showcase: Six of our Early Adopters will showcase their Enjin-powered games at our booth — and demo the Enjin Multiverse!

🥂 Enjin-sponsored Blockchain Mixer: Celebrate GDC Blockchain Day at the Official Blockchain Mixer hosted by Enjin! Head to the Moscone Center on March 21 at 6:30pm for happy hour and networking with industry leaders, including the Blockchain Game Alliance.

🗣 Speaking Sessions: Enjin CTO Witek Radomski will be presenting two blockchain game development sessions: 1) Blockchain Game Development and ERC-1155 and 2) Live Demo: Developing Ethereum Games with the Enjin Platform.

Introducing the Enjin Platform

We’re going to GDC to show off the full might of the Enjin Platform — a robust, flexible, powerful suite of tools and services for creating groundbreaking blockchain-powered games.

Enjin Platform is a blockchain PaaS that enables developers to create and manage blockchain games without the complexity of building and maintaining the infrastructure typically associated with developing and launching a blockchain game.

The Enjin Platform will be launched on Testnet prior to GDC. It’s the only remaining core pillar of the Enjin Ecosystem to be released (the other two pillars being the already launched Enjin Wallet and Enjin Explorer).

At GDC, we’ll introduce tens of thousands of game developers to the tools and services encompassed by the Enjin Platform, such as the Blockchain SDK for Unity and Platform API, as well as demoing our other products and services, including the Enjin Wallet, Beam, and Explorer.

By demoing the Blockchain SDK for Unity, our goal at GDC 2019 is to educate, inform, and inspire thousands of developers by showing them a powerful tool that seamlessly integrates with their favorite game engine and enables them to create blockchain games without a single line of Solidity.

Enjin-Powered Games at GDC 2019

Last year, the Enjin Platform was like a simple pen you could use to scribble short, cutting-edge blockchain stories.

This year, we’ll be showcasing a mighty, magical quill—one that can be used to write epic blockchain sagas and gaming multiverses into existence.

9Lives Arena, Age of Rust, AlterVerse, Bitcoin Hodler, Cats in Mechs, and ReBounce will also be joining us at our booth to showcase their games and the Enjin Blockchain Gaming Multiverse!

9Lives Arena

Featuring innovative permadeath game mechanics, blockchain-based characters, and an AI companion, 9Lives Arena is a competitive online RPG designed for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Age of Rust

Set in a dark post-apocalyptic universe, Age of Rust is a picturesque role-playing adventure game and the first to implement a blockchain-based peer-to-peer rental market using Enjin’s smart contracts.

AlterVerse

AlterVerse, a gaming and world-building platform, is using the Enjin Platform to integrate blockchain assets into 17 interconnected gaming worlds.

Bitcoin Hodler

Bitcoin Hodler is a single-player arcade-style adventure featuring blockchain-based assets and rewards, as well as a real-world 24-hour altcoin price tracking gameplay mechanic.

Cats in Mechs

A top-down shoot ‘em up mech-building RPG, Cats in Mechs features blockchain-based items and accessories that players can buy, sell, and trade to upgrade their mechs.

ReBounce

Created by Titan Flight Studios, ReBounce is a casual mobile arcade game featuring blockchain-powered items backed by Enjin Coin.

GDC Blockchain Mixer: Hosted by Enjin with the Blockchain Game Alliance

March 21 at GDC is Blockchain Day.

What better way to cap off a day dedicated to our favorite technology than by hosting a mixer?

After we spend the day demoing our blockchain game development tools at the booth and educating devs via two speaking sessions, it’s time to continue the blockchain-centric celebration at the Official GDC Blockchain Mixer hosted by Enjin.

As with every event we attend, our aim at GDC is to share the gospel of Enjin with the masses—and this mixer is no different.

In addition to being a blockchain game development learning experience, the Blockchain Mixer will provide a venue for GDC attendees to connect, network, and share their ideas and expertise regarding blockchain and gaming.

With that in mind, we are thrilled to welcome the Blockchain Game Alliance to the event.

Formed in September 2017, the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA) is a coalition of gaming and blockchain companies committed to advocating for the democratization of blockchain within the gaming industry.

Comprised of industry leaders like Ubisoft, ConseSys, and Enjin, the BGA seeks to develop common standards and practices for the use of blockchain technology in gaming.

Speaking Sessions

Enjin CTO Witek Radomski will be presenting two blockchain game development sessions as part of the conference’s Programming track:

Blockchain Game Development and ERC-1155

Witek Radomski, CTO and author of the ERC-1155 standard, will explore how blockchain technology can be used in creative ways in game design and new forms of gameplay.

He will discuss Enjin’s suite of blockchain development tools, and demonstrate Enjin Beam by beaming out some collectible tokens we made exclusively for GDC 2019! Finally, he will showcase some of the most interesting games being built on the Enjin Platform this year, and take a dive into the world’s first “multiverse.”

Witek will be joined by SpacePirate Games Founder Chris LoVerme, who will demo Age of Rust, a dark sci-fi adventure game being built with the Enjin Platform.

Takeaway: Attendees learn how to creatively design gameplay around blockchain technology, and see the suite of tools that Enjin has been building to make integration into Ethereum an easy task.

Intended Audience: Game designers, producers, and programmers of any skill level will benefit by learning about this relatively new medium.

Live Demo: Developing Ethereum Games with the Enjin Platform

Enjin CTO Witek Radomski will be demoing the Enjin Blockchain SDK and showing you how to integrate fungible and non-fungible blockchain assets into a Unity game.

He will mint new tokens on Ethereum, add them to a demo game, and infuse them with functionality and metadata. Witek will then demonstrate how to create a simple web application to offer your items for sale.

Next, Godot Engine Co-Founder Ariel Manzur will present the Enjin SDK module for Godot and explain how to create blockchain games with the popular open-source game engine.

Takeaway: Attendees learn how to use Ethereum ERC-1155 tokens, attach metadata (on-chain and off-chain), and integrate blockchain into games using Enjin’s Blockchain SDK in both Unity and Godot. Outside of the game, the Enjin Platform API will be used to create a simple web application for interacting with these virtual items.

Intended Audience: Game developers of any skill level wishing to integrate tokenized assets into their games.

Over 41 million blockchain assets have been already minted with ENJ.

It’s strange, when you really think about it.

A technology that appeared out of nowhere, created by a mystical persona more than a decade ago, is now finally reaching a point where it might actually make a difference.

A point where we’re slowly going from hypothetical — to actually usable.

While gaming is probably not the industry that impacts most of our lives, the long-term consequences of what we’re doing at Enjin might just echo through the pages of future history.

For us, it’s been obvious for a while now that we’re ultimately destined to help usher in a new era of gaming —and quite likely, actually bring blockchain into the hands and pockets of mainstream audiences.

The road is clear: millions of game developers creating Enjin-powered games played by billions of gamers.

This year’s Game Developers Conference is an important stop on this journey that we embarked on back in 2017.

If you happen to be in San Francisco in late March, come over to Booth S563 and say hello.
