Will Apple’s new glasses determine the fate of VR glasses, which are expected to form the basis of the Metaverse universe? What kind of experience does Apple’s ‘mixed reality glasses’ offer?

Today, when we talk about ‘Virtual Reality (VR)’ technology, the first virtual reality glasses come to our minds. However, although many companies all over the world produce different models, VR glasses have not yet become a part of our lives such as smartphones and smart watches. In addition to the expensiveness of these products, there is also a lack of interest in this technology. According to the research conducted by Thrive Analytics company with participants between the ages of 18–65 in the USA; 63 percent say they don’t find VR glasses technology interesting. Interestingly, 40 percent of respondents under the age of 25 state that they do not find technology interesting and that it is unnecessarily expensive. Virtual reality actually means creating a virtual world in 3D. For the first time in history, the idea was put forward by the multimedia expert Morton Heilig in 1962 and has survived to the present day. But despite the heated debate about VR glasses and their metaverse integration, there are still some challenges that hinder the active development of the technology.

Extended Reality: A New Era in Technology

A major challenge is the need for a high learning threshold to enter this new world. Adults need time to get used to the interface and adjust to the feelings of virtual reality. People may feel discomfort during long-term use of VR glasses. Symptoms of motion sickness such as headache, dizziness, nausea and disorientation may be experienced. Project management and virtual reality — does that go together?

MAGIC WAND TO VR GLASSES

Google has tried smart glasses before, Meta is constantly making new strides in this regard, but this product is struggling to garner the desired attention. Technology giant Apple introduced the Vision Pro, mixed reality glasses at the traditional World Developers Conference (WWDC) this week. The technology world was eagerly awaiting the glasses that Apple would introduce. Glasses are the most important new product introduced by Apple after the Apple Watch (Apple Watch), which it launched in 2015. The glasses will offer both virtual and augmented reality experiences. Apple CEO Tim Cook said in his keynote speech that the glasses seamlessly blend the real world and the virtual world. The first thing that came to mind was whether even Apple could bring virtual reality out of a niche and into the mainstream. Some experts say if there is a company that can bring VR glasses into the mainstream, he says it is Apple with its ecosystem of two billion iPhone, iPad and Mac users.

Augmented or virtual reality, a promising market?

Apple announced that the Vision Pro is the company’s first spatial computer. In the statement, which stated that Vision Pro allows users to stay connected with others while blending digital content with the physical world, the product was defined as ‘revolutionary’. In the statement, it was stated that the Vision Pro offers a fully three-dimensional interface that is controlled by the most natural and intuitive inputs such as the user’s eyes, hands and voice, and it has an ultra-high resolution imaging system that combines 23 million pixels on two screens. In general, mixed reality devices cater to the gaming industry or large, extravagant experiences. Apple, on the other hand, never mentioned the games. The message here was: Everything you do on your phone, do it bigger, brighter, and in the environment of your home. He is targeting the mainstream with his promotion, saying that Apple has made glasses a useful part of everyday life. For this reason, it is said that the introduction of the Apple Vision Pro will be a big moment that represents a change, just as the iPhone did in the smartphone space. Let’s see if Vision Pro, which is as comfortable as wearing a ski goggle, has the magic to change the fate of VR glasses.

WHAT ARE THE FEATURES?

  • Vision Pro, unlike the others, an external display shows your eyes to others and the device is controlled using your hand, eye movements and your voice.
  • It lets you adjust how much you want to be immersed in the world that beams into your pupils via two small 4K screens.
  • Unlike its counterparts, it has separated the battery from the product, so it does not weigh on your head. The battery has to be with you connected to a cable.
  • When it opens, you see the environment around you, but it’s not like seeing through the glass. You see it through the cameras in front of you. This is important for the ‘mixed reality’ experience because virtual elements are projected into your surroundings.
