The Future of the Internet: Metaverse, NFT and Web3

Another view on the metaverse came from Deloitte Canada’s Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) Research Director Duncan Stewart, who was in Istanbul for the presentation of Deloitte’s ‘TMT Insights 2022’ report. Evaluating the future promised by the ‘metaverse’, defined as the ‘next big thing’ after the smartphone, Duncan says that the perception of ‘virtual universe = metaverse’ is wrong.

Reminding that in this universe, people can easily move from one point to another with everything they have with them, Duncan says, “Therefore, there is a group of ‘Miniverse’ (small universe) instead of a Metaverse as currently thought.” Emphasizing that companies that want to take part in the ‘Metaverse’ should first monitor and experiment with opportunities in the ‘virtual universe’, Duncan states that it will also be important to prepare their employees for the Metaverse. Stating that technology companies will invest billions of dollars to develop the Metaverse starting this year, Duncan Stewart says, “Anyone waiting for 2025 will miss the train.”
