Apple: every day more, a services company

For most observers, Apple, the most valuable company in the world, is a hardware company, a manufacturer of iconic consumer electronics products as the Mac, the iPhone or the Apple Watch. Nobody would argue that the company still depends enormously on its most iconic flagship product, the iPhone, and that the decade that has passed since its launch have made most of its fortunes. But day by day, a new source of income that many may not have given enough importance is emerging: services.

In practice, Apple has been evolving into a service company. If you use the company’s products, it is more than possible, for example, that you protect them using AppleCare, an insurance that prevents you from being tempted to use the broken glass of your iPhone screen to cut your veins after you have dropped it for the umpteenth time . In addition, it is very possible that you pay a small monthly amount for storage space on iCloud, that you also subscribe to Apple Music, that you buy applications in the App Store, possibly contained in iTunes, or that you pay for a growing range of goods with Apple Pay.

Apple Pay is revolutionizing the company. In the US market, it already accounts for three quarters of contactless payments and continues to grow, while internationally it is an important player in 20 markets with contactless payment quotas close to 90%. Each time…
