Apple: is it just about the money?

Citing “market conditions”, Apple has announced a pay rise for corporate and retail employees. The move is aimed at stemming the departure of some prominent hires, as well as a response a response to union drives, which the company also intends to discourage through videos.

Trouble in paradise? Things have been going well for Apple, which is one of the most valuable companies in the world, and is considered an interesting place to work that looks good on a CV. But things seem to be changing: post-pandemic problems caused by pressure on employees reluctant to return to the office after two years of happily working from home threaten the company’s ability to attract and retain talent, as well as souring the work environment.

A company once characterized by its employees’ pride in belonging, their commitment and, above all, a positive atmosphere, now finds itself having to deal with open letters of protest and a willingness on the part of staff to protest decisions they disagree with.
