Covid provided a stark warning about the fragility of the global economy’s supply chains, particularly so in the case of chips, which are increasingly important for all types of industries and products, with production concentrated in a few countries.

Once the pandemic was over, and after analyzing the problems that led, for example, to production stoppages in automobile factories and other products, several governments embarked on a desperate race to get the few major players in the production of advanced chips to expand by building semiconductor manufacturing plants, known as fabs, to ensure the supply of chips to their industry in the event of disruptions resulting from any phenomenon, be it another pandemic, a natural disaster or regional conflict, possibilities I have covered in previous articles:
