The dawn of domestic robotics: a new era of consumer technology

Increasingly I find myself imagining our imminent future, one where robotics plays an important part of our daily lives, extending far beyond automated vacuum cleaners.

Part of the reason for my growing interest in this area is down to having a good friend who has been working for some time at 1X, a Norwegian company I have grown fascinated with as I’ve explored their work. Specializing in AI and robotics, they’re developing lightweight robots that can be used in industry, and thanks to their anthropomorphic design — which makes them not only versatile but also naturally suited to human-designed infrastructure and tools — can also be better adapted to domestic use than Boston Dynamics or Optimus’s, which we’ve seen in countless viral videos.

Precisely Boston Dynamics released today another viral video showing the moves of a new robot, much more natural than all the previous ones:

The typical metal behemoth installed in factories is not going to be a great fit in most homes, unlike a humanoid robot standing 1.67 meters tall…
