In the wake of Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter on Friday, the media has been awash with rumors and warnings that neo-Nazis, racists, anti-Semites and all kinds of groups given to hate speech, harassment, insults and barbarities left, would flock to the newly “freed” social network.

So far, Musk has not changed Twitter’s moderation policies, telling the company’s advertisers that Twitter “must be warm and welcoming to all,” and “cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences.”

That should come as no surprise: why would Musk spend $44 billion dollars on acquiring what is arguably the world’s key communication tool and then let it descend into a madhouse.

That said, there has been a trolling campaign launched from around 300 mostly fake accounts that have generated around 50,000 tweets, which Twitter has described as “an organized effort to make users think that the company has changed its content policies”, and that have since been deleted.

Nevertheless, some organizations and individuals are taking a wait and see approach. GM says it’s pausing its advertising on Twitter until it has a clearer idea of the direction the platform will take, and some high-profile users, like Shonda Rhimes or LeBron James, have expressed…
