Why are some people so afraid of innovation?

Thursday saw several important announcements of Alex Blania and Sam Altman’s Tools for Humanity Worldcoin project, now simply called World. I should have been in San Francisco for the event, or at least I was invited, but couldn’t make it for reasons I will explain in the not-too-distant future.

Alex, who I have twice invited to discuss the project with students in my innovation course, made five major announcements: the development of a new Orb, using a more advanced Nvidia chip; Jetson, which provides faster and more accurate World ID humanity test verifications from iris scans, which are never stored by the company, and which, like virtually everything else the company does, can be manufactured by anyone who adheres to open source specifications.

In addition, all operations are being moved to World Chain, a blockchain supported by top-tier blockchain service providers and applications such as Optimism, Alchemy, Uniswap, Safe, Dune or Etherscan, whichintegrates World ID and provides all verified humans with access to the priority block space.

There are also new features to increase the privacy, security and scalability of the system. World ID Credentials allows World ID holders to optionally store their NFC-enabled physical passport information in the World App on their device without the company or anyone else…
