“The HUMAN centered design in Design Thinking is critical. making it about the person (empathy), not about me” Workshop Participant

Over the last couple of weeks, we have had the opportunity to work with the Directors of Victoria’s Tech Schools as part of our work with the Victorian Department of Education. The problems they are tackling are in no way small but the prototyped solutions we are developing are inspiring.

  • How might we Instill the concept of co-learning in order to alleviate fear?
  • How might we lift student aspirations and broaden their views of potential careers in their local community?
  • How might we meet the needs of accountability, consistency, and equality for students by incorporating Design Thinking (Co-Learning) at a systematic level (in schools)?
  • How might we support teachers to become effective and connected facilitators in order to build confidence, capacity, and [respect from their leaders] to be innovative in implementing design thinking across the different subject/curriculum areas.

The key to our role as facilitators is to model what we believe — we are here as part of the team, we are co-learners. I couldn’t be prouder of our team, the EnRusk team, + the team from DET + The Tech Schools Directors and Program Leads, unifying as one, together with diving into some complex and challenging problems. We can solve these together, not alone.

The feedback we have received has again been first-rate.

  • “What an all-star team! (A) great four days of workshops with dynamic facilitators.”
  • “Your self-awareness as facilitators/teachers/trainers, and EQ when reading and responding to individuals and the group was terrific to observe.”
  • “I really liked the way EnRusk made me feel valued and comfortable in the online space. Being a graduate I have often felt like the least experienced in the professional space, however, these sessions have really changed my mindset around that and have made me feel empowered to speak up about my knowledge and ideas.”
  • “1st class facilitating by passionate people;”
  • “I loved the way that you drove collaboration among the broader group and sub-groups;

The following poem, penned by a workshop participant, was published in the chat function of

Zoom. She asked for others to collaborate on it with her. We have included it as we feel it

captures the group’s feelings and the workshops’ energy and atmosphere. We think it also

captures the emphasis we place on empathy and connectivity.

Squares, colours, light

red icons

on, off

voices reverberating

hearing, listening

watching, seeing

splashing, swimming, diving

shards of light

piercing the depths

breath in, breath out

tentacles

moving, flowing

curling, unfurling

surrendering to the current

jet propulsing upstream
