A short tale about our first Ops Mid-Cycle Meetup
Here’s Openstack. And we are glad to have hosted the second european Mid-Cycle Meetup for OpenStack operators: the first was held in Manchester, UK, on February 15th/16th 2016. One year and a month later, the community-plane has landed in Milan from the clouds (italian sense of humour…), precisely at Coworking Login. We hope the attendees have eaten better than in England (italian humour, again).
It was like an adrenaline rush. First of all for the Coworking staff: we arranged everything to make the community feel comfortable, and according to the feedbacks on Etherpad we got a good result. We hosted approximately 100 operators for two days: the perfect way to understand how they work, how they face problems, how they solve them. At the same time, Meetup was satisfying for our guests, and obviously this is what matters.
This was the best of the last operations-focused conferences that Openstack community puts together. This one really was community driven and user driven.
The event, sponsored by Enter Cloud Suite, Bloomberg, Intel, CloudBase, SWITCH and Nudge Networks, was structured with a remarkable number of round table/working/discussion sessions, in perfect Ops Meetups’ style. We reserved three Coworking areas for it: Work Area 1 (the main area), Meetup Area and Meeting Room 1.
We chose Vista Darsena for the evening party. A lovely club in the Navigli district, one of the most fascinating neighborhoods in Milan. The ancient Romans used to say ‘In vino veritas’: while having a drink, the community’s sociability come to light. We spent a funny night together, and a few hours later we were again at work. When, once the Meetup was over, we saw Tom Fifield putting away his chair to help us, we had it confirmed: this is the future, a future of elegance and politeness. A future of collaboration.
