Enterprise Protocol: Simplifying DAO Management
Enterprise Protocol is Terra’s no-code solution to effective DAO management. In just a few minutes, and with no prior technical expertise, new and existing communities can use Enterprise to create or migrate their DAO, taking advantage of an ever-increasing set of powerful tools.
In this article, we’ll explore how Enterprise enables communities to more efficiently organize and manage their DAOs, improving their flexibility, governance, and transparency.
DAO Optionality
Every DAO is unique. That’s why Enterprise offers communities three different DAO types to choose from when creating or migrating their DAO:
Token DAOs
Token DAOs are those chosen by communities who have created, or will create, a token that DAO members can utilize. With Enterprise, DAO creators can mint a new token using the no-code builder, or import their existing one with just a few clicks. For new tokens, DAO creators have the ability to specify the mint amount and input account addresses to send the newly minted tokens to.
In order to participate in a token DAO’s governance, users stake their tokens using Enterprise’s integrated staking module, allowing them to create and vote on proposals.
NFT DAOs
NFT communities are an integral part of the culture that makes today’s blockchain ecosystems both fun and engaging. Using Enterprise, NFT communities can import their existing NFT collection in a few easy steps, or simply create a new one by specifying a mint address.
Similar to tokens in token DAOs, NFTs can be used as proof of membership in a DAO. Any user holding an NFT in the DAO’s collection can stake it securely in governance to create and vote on proposals, allowing them to make timely, informed decisions that align with the goals of the DAO.
Multisig DAOs
Multisig DAOs are a straightforward and effective means to maintain shared funds in a decentralized way. Each member of a multisig has a weight, or proportion of voting power, and can create or vote on proposals, such as spending funds from the wallet or adding/removing members. Just like token and NFT DAOs, migrating or creating a new multisig on Enterprise can be done in less than 5 minutes.
Enhanced Flexibility
Enterprise Protocol allows DAOs to easily and quickly adapt to changing conditions, whether that means expanding their membership, adjusting their governance structures, or implementing new initiatives.
Customizable Configuration
When creating or migrating a DAO on Enterprise, creators have complete agency over its configuration, including social media links to be displayed on the dApp, and governance parameters, such as:
- Threshold: the percentage of “Yes” votes needed to pass a proposal
- Quorum: the minimum number of staked tokens, NFTs, or multisig votes that need to vote for a proposal to be considered valid
- Unlocking Period: the period of time it takes for a staked token to become unstaked
- Vote Duration: the amount of time DAO members have to vote on a proposal
Even after a DAO has been created, members maintain full control over its configurations. If a DAO member ever desires to update one of the governance, or other input parameters of their DAO, all they must do is create a DAO configuration update proposal. If passed, the proposer can then execute the update, implementing the desired changes.
No-Code Governance Proposals
Community-oriented decision making is a core component of any well-functioning DAO, and Enterprise facilitates it in a seamless, accessible fashion. Using the no-code governance proposal functionality on Enterprise, any DAO member can create a proposal to make changes to their DAO, regardless of prior technical knowledge.
There are a number of no-code proposal types to choose from, including:
- DAO Upgrade: vote to upgrade a DAO’s software to the latest version in order to enjoy the most up-to-date features on Enterprise
- DAO Configuration: update input parameters on a DAO, such as threshold or quorum
- Update Whitelisted Assets: update which assets will be displayed in a DAO’s treasury dashboard
- Update Multisig Members: add or remove members, or update a multisig member’s weight
- Text Proposals: gauge community consensus on a given topic
In addition to the above, Enterprise offers further customization through the usage of Proposal to Execute Message proposals, which allow proposers to include custom Cosm/Wasm messages that can equip DAOs with the ability to interact with external smart contracts.
Increased Transparency
Openness and transparency are core to the ethos of public blockchain technologies. Correspondingly, Enterprise Protocol allows DAOs to maintain a transparent, auditable record of all transactions and activities through their respective treasury dashboard, ensuring that all stakeholders can see how funds are being used. DAO treasuries can hold both tokens and NFTs, and spending of DAO funds can be accomplished via governance proposals.
Conclusion
DAOs on Enterprise benefit from a wide range of features that make it easy to manage assets and make decisions as a decentralized community. From customizable configuration and no-code governance proposals to seamless migration and a treasury management dashboard, DAOs have a myriad of tools at their disposal to improve their adaptability, governance, and transparency.
