Dwayne Johnson has made an incredible transition from being a pro wrestler in WWE to becoming the professional actor in Hollywood. Even though he was in wrestling for a while, and initially, he wasn’t even thinking about being the star on the silver screen, he has been building his reputation since the late 1990s. Johnson has had incredible success as an actor and a producer, and his popularity increases on a daily basis. Even though he has not been in the acting business since his younger days, his career is just getting started, and we will see a lot more from Dwayne Johnson.

However, just because Johnson appeared in numerous titles and has a lot more movies in his resume than some of his colleagues, it doesn’t mean that all of the films were great. On the contrary, The Rock stared in some poorly-rated films, but he has learned a lot from the mistakes and has grown as an actor a lot since his debut. We rank all Johnsons movies from worst to best, and we want your opinion on it.

Longshot — 2001

This is the movie that should not have been made. There are several poor Dwayne Johnson films, and in this one, he appears as a handsome mugger who gets beaten up by a guy half his size.

Southland Tales — 2006

It was a difficult choice between Southland Tales and Longshot, but Southland Tales is slightly better. Once again, Johnson shares the screen with Seann William Scott, which is a delight, but his role of Boxer Santeros was plain awful.

The Mummy Returns — 2001

Johnson has appeared in some TV series before the Mummy Returns, but this was his first big-screen break. The scene in which his character Mathayus tries to survive the desert after he and his army lost the battle sums the film up, but that is not even one of the worst scenes.

Tooth Fairy — 2010

In this film, Johnson played Derek Thompson who is a hockey player in a minor league, and because of his behavior, he gets in trouble with tooth fairies and becomes one as a punishment and a way to correct his mistakes. Who writes this sort of stuff?

Empire State — 2013

Johnson had a successful 2013, but the Empire State was not a part of that success. This film was a failure, and neither Liam Hemsworth nor Michael Angarano had enough charisma to save this project.

Race to Witch Mountain — 2009

The movie called Race to Witch Mountain is a cute release, but that is all. It is okay for a Disney TV movie in the afternoon, but one of the scenes from this film became one of the most popular memes.

Doom — 2005

Johnson plays Gunnery Sergeant Asher “Sarge” Mahonin, but even The Rock could save this movie from being a failure. It is a video game adaptation gone wrong.

Planet 51–2009

Johnson has never been famous for voicing animated characters, but he did it in two films — Moana, which you will see later and Planet 51. One of those movies is a forgettable creation, but Johnson plays the only human character in the entire film, and Planet 51 is his first take on animated movies.

Be Cool — 2005

If you are a fan of Johnson, you probably wouldn’t say that this is his movie. The Rock only appears in this film briefly and his playing a bodyguard who has the preference to the same gender and his only role is to raise an eyebrow.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation — 2013

Much was expected from this movie which budget was around $150 million, but the follow up to G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra disappointed. However, Johnson was perfect for the role, and it is a decent film to see and a must if you are The Rock’s fan.

The Scorpion King — 2002

Johnson’s first star role was in The Scorpion King, where he played the titular character. The movie was moderately successful, and Johnson showcased his talents and charisma. Plus the supporting cast consisting of Kelly Hu and Michael Clarke Duncan makes this release a solid one.

The Game Plan — 2007

In The Game Plan, Johnson is the famous football player Joe Kingman, but his life changes when he finds out that he is a dad to an eight-year-old daughter. He tries to figure out the way to be a dad and struggles to find the balance between his career and his fatherhood. The Game Plan is a great film if you want to relax.

Hercules — 2014

If somebody can play Hercules, it is Dwayne. It was a good film mostly because watching Johnson beating up his opponents is never boring.

Get Smart — 2008

In the movie Get Smart, Johnson has a supporting role, but he managed to show his charisma and athletic abilities. His character, Agent 23, was believable due to Johnson’s efforts and he and Carrel had good chemistry.

Journey 2 — The Mysterious Island — 2012

In The Mysterious Island, Johnson showed everyone that he could lead the family-friendly action-adventure film. It is a fun movie you can re-watch it and have fun each time.

Faster — 2010

Faster has nothing to do with the Fast and Furious franchise, and in this movie, Johnson had a brutal role — a type of role which is perhaps more suitable to Bruce Willis.

Snitch — 2013

Unlike Faster, when Johnson’s character is driven by vengeance, in Snitch, he brings justice. However, Snitch is not entirely a family-friendly film, but it shows Johnson in a slightly different role.

Baywatch — 2017

Baywatch was not as bad as it was rated by a majority of critics. It is a fun, action-packed story with beautiful people are running around in slow motion. These things were expected from this movie anyway and who wanted more out of it, ended up disappointed.

The Rundown — 2003

In The Rundown, Johnson shared the screen with Seann William Scott and Rosario Dawson. It was the film that started to show The Rock more as an actor than the wrestler. It was a mishmash of different ideas, and that is why it has not reached top ten.

Walking Tall — 2004

There is something that makes this film one of the better Johnson’s movies. His character returns in his hometown that got ridden with crime and corruption, and he decides to fix everything and throw the trash out.

Gridiron Gang — 2006

Watching Gridiron Gang is enjoyable, and this family-friendly sports movie will put the smile on your face. Johnson plays Sean Porter, a probation officer who creates a football program at the detention centers and helps students with their issues.

Central Intelligence — 2015

You can see that Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson hang out when the cameras shut down because their chemistry is excellent in Central Intelligence. It is a fun movie in the least, and both Hart and Johnson’s performances were outstanding.

The Other Guys — 2010

The Other Guys is the movie which stars Mark Wahlberg and Will Farrell, but Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson appear as two cops in the NYPD. Their scene is one of the best in the film despite the fact they have supporting roles.

San Andreas — 2015

Out of all Johnson’s disaster films, San Andreas was probably the best one. You can watch The Rock in the role of LAFD Air Rescue pilot Ray Gaines, and no other actor would do a better job in this film. There is a bunch of action scenes in this one and The Rock delivered.

Pain and Gain — 2013

Pain and Gain is one of Michael Bay’s better releases in the recent years, and it is loosely based on the real-life exploits of the criminal bodybuilders of Miami’s Sun Gym. The main role was given to Mark Wahlberg, but Johnson also has the significant part in the film.

The Fate of the Furious — 2017

The latest installment of Fast and Furious franchised grossed billions worldwide, and The Rock is just one of the superstars who appeared in this film. The Fate of the Furious is a great mixture of cars, action, and fight between good and bad.

Fast Five — 2011

Johnson’s first appearance in the franchise was in Fast Five. His original role was to chase down Vin Diesel’s Dominic Torreto, but he later joins the team. We haven’t got used to watching Johnson as a bad boy, and this was expected.

Fast and Furious 6–2013

The Fast and Furious 6 brings the whole franchise together, and the fans are starting to put the pieces of the puzzle. It is one of the best films in which we can see Johnson.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle — 2017

Johnson’s latest film Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is crème de la crème. It was a great way to pay homage to late Robin Williams, plus it offered a fresh take on Jumanji. The Rock, alongside Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black, played avatars in the game and it is a fun adventure flick everyone needs to see.

Furious 7–2017

It is hard to sort out all of the Fast and Furious movies, but we are left with Furious 7. In this one, Johnson’s Hobbs is hospitalized for the most part, but still, it is one of best movies with the big guy in it.

Moana — 2016

Disney’s animated Moana surprised everyone, and it became one of the best-animated films in recent past. It has everything you expect from an animated movie, and Johnson gave his voice to the demigod Maui. The reason why The Rock was so great in this role is that it had a lot of elements from his own Pacific Islands heritage. And he can sing!
