In the realm of films, new titles and storylines are always being introduced to audiences everywhere. Whether it be comedy, romance, thriller or more, movies must grasp attention from the beginning and continue gaining headway for it to be considered a successful movie. In this digital age, there are multiple ways that new films can be promoted and in the case of the comedy Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates, they publicized the movie in a fun and special way.

Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates, starring Adam Devine and Zac Efron, is based on two wild brothers who love to have a good time. But, whenever the duo is placed in a party scenario -whether it be a holiday celebration or a family gathering- their crazy endeavors can get a little out of hand. So when their sister asks them to bring respectable dates to her wedding in Hawaii, the brothers must go out in search of two women who would make their family proud. They decided to place an ad online; a paid for trip to Hawaii for their sister’s wedding. The ad went viral and had thousands of responses, including two best friends that are just as bad as the brothers when put together. Putting on a “good girl” persona, these ladies schmoozed the brothers into taking them on the trip of a lifetime. The duration of the comedy is filled with ruckus and strange happenings when the four adults are all together at one wedding.

To promote the movie, one of the tactics was having a Facebook page where trailers and clips of the movie were consistently being posted. Also posted on the page were movie posters, advertisements, hashtags (#MikeAndDave; #RespectableAF) as well as other multimedia videos such as external interviews with the cast, cast members talking about wedding happenings and more. An example was a series of short clips in which the four main characters would explain a wedding hack, like, “Do NOT wear a white sundress to the wedding…white is only for the bride!” and then the cast said to tag a friend that was NSFW: Not Safe For Weddings. One of the most popular promotions for the movie was a live Facebook video, in which Adam Devine visited the Alpha Phi sorority house in Boulder, Colorado. He went there in search of “dates” for the wedding and fans got the chance to meet him. Adam posted a video on Instagram of his experience. Even after the movie was shown in theaters, it was continually being promoted through interactive Facebook posts, such as asking people to share their most awkward wedding photos (the winner would receive a $250 Amazon card and a copy of Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates).

Being one of the funniest comedies of 2016, the movie was publicized in such a creative way that it was memorable even beyond the screen.
