The Importance of Enthusiasm
2 min readFeb 28, 2018

The study of enthusiasm has increased in popularity in recent years. The idea of using an enthusiastic attitude in order to help someone become more successful is a relatively new concept. There have been many people who have advocated for the use of enthusiasm to help achieve success. One of the most popular enthusiasm advocators is Norman Vincent Perle, an American minister and writer. Norman Vincent Perle is famous for writing books about the power of positive attitudes and how that leads to long term happiness and success. In his book, “Enthusiasm Makes the Difference” Perle explains to his readers the importance of being enthusiastic. The book gives specific examples of ways to become more enthusiastic and how being enthusiastic has helped Perle in the past. Perle uses specific examples of experiences from his own life where enthusiasm provided him with an advantage. For example, in his book, he wrote “Enthusiasm can truly make a difference-the difference in how your life will turn out.” (Perle, 1967) In other words, being enthusiastic will make a difference in your life and how others view you. People are more likely going to like someone more if they are energetic and friendly verses someone who is the opposite of these traits. Success is not something that is considered to be easy, but having the right attitude is a great start. Perle is also saying that being enthusiastic doesn’t guarantee you success and happiness. He simply means being enthusiastic is a great first step in the right start for being successful. Being just enthusiastic alone is not something that can make someone successful. There are many other factors that determine success besides enthusiasm, such as a strong work ethic and leadership skills. You are likely to be more successful if these skills are practiced and used on a day to day basis.
