How Startups Should Engage the Media

Andy Warhol

CRAFTING A PITCH

What makes a great pitch?

THE THREE KEY THINGS TO REMEMBER

  1. Reporters fact check. Maybe not every article, but eventually you will be caught out.
  2. Simplify the story and stay focused. Don’t create long PR full of jargon. If you can’t write the entire story in three sentences, don’t bother.
  3. Relationships are key. Provide a steady stream of relevant and interesting information. Then you’ll be on a journalists’ mind, becoming the thought leader and go to person in the segment your startup operates in.
