Teach Yourself: Tax for Small Businesses, Sarah Deeks http://buff.ly/1ma3Fb4

My first self assessment Tax return, once I got round to it, was not too much of a struggle despite the jargon. However, I felt uncomfortable about various aspects, such as sole trader versus incorporation, and decided to investigate further.

The Accountancy labelled shelf at the local library yielded some useful, but possibly dated info so I investigated a large selection of startup books @waterstonesabdn and purchased Sarah Deeks’ one “which is the only up-to-date tax guide for small businesses”.

The book has “useful insight” boxes in and as the Amazon reviews largely report it is well worth it. Indeed I feel that the reviewers there cover the issues: they are predominantly 4/5 star with the naysayers complaining about delivery issues or just being grumpy; so I will thus restrict my comments.

In conclusion I should say that the Teach Yourself style suits me. To confirm this I borrowed the Basic Plumbing one, another area of some mystique, and was pleasantly surprised by the level of relevant detail which had been lacking in the glossy encyclopaedic DIY manuals.
