Meet Sean Matthews & Brett Hazard the multi-hyphenate entrepreneurs behind luxury real estate brand Hazard | Matthews Group.

Matthews, started attending college at the age of sixteen in search of a career path, but he soon realized school wasn’t for him. “I didn’t see the cost-benefit and many university degrees continued to decrease in value.” said Matthews, “The idea of accumulating an exorbitant amount of debt in the hopes of digging your way out later didn’t seem like a worthwhile investment to me.” A few weeks after his eighteenth birthday, Matthews made the move to Los Angeles and he hasn’t looked back since.

Matthews has worked in the entertainment industry for more than a decade; first, by working his way up to a department head at Deluxe Entertainment Studios, then as a co-founder of a full-service production company, executive producer, and now real estate broker. Over the years, Matthews has produced more than 150 hours of television for networks such as NBC, BET, Oxygen, Bravo, WETV, etc. In early 2017, Matthews co-created and executive produced VH1’s hit real estate show, “Love & Listings,” continuing to be one of Hollywood’s youngest executive producers. Matthews also served as a senior producer for MTV’s “The Busch Family Brewed,” a show following the exclusive lives of the Anheuser-Busch Budweiser family.

As the entertainment industry continued to change, with streaming platforms taking over, the ability to sell content bottlenecked. Matthews, realizing this trend early on, started transitioning into real estate, first as an investor and then he started brokering deals for other industry professionals. “I realized early on a major key to my immediate success was the strong industry relationships I had forged over a decade as a producer. My clients trust me because I can relate and understand their world, I speak the same language.” Matthews continued.

With years of experience as an agent, investor, and now developer, Brett Hazard has unparalleled knowledge of the real estate market — most recently named as Los Angeles Magazine’s 2020 All Star and Pasadena Magazine’s 2020 Top Estate Director.

Hazard started his career while still in school at the age of 16, working for a Forbes Ranked Top Realtor learning the ins & outs of the business. Fast forward, now with over 15+ years of experience and over $100,000,000 in individual sales; Brett is a consistent top producer. “I attribute my success to persistence and hard work, Said Hazard, “I do what is necessary day in and day out to get the deal done, some agents just don’t have the creativity & discipline to push through the tough situations…I thrive on it.”

Hazard is consistently staying up-to-date with his market. His main goal when working with his clients is to be sure that they are as educated as possible when buying real estate. Brett says, “Real estate is a relationship based business & every relationship I have is much more valuable to me than any transaction will ever be. I put for my clients best interest first and I would never put a client in a position I wouldn’t want to be in personally.”

Being an expert in residential and multi-family development, Brett and his partners oversee and manage several multi-million dollar development projects throughout L.A. at any given time. “I only look for projects I can add tremendous value too.” Hazard continued. “I don’t speculate, no one knows when the market will go up or down, the best thing you can do is hedge your investment, and always be prepared for the worst-case-scenario.”

Luxury real estate is extremely competitive and reputation is everything in this business. “We fight for our clients like it’s our own money” said Hazard. “Trust is crucial when working with high-net worth and celebrity clientele.
