NewsDeeply is dedicated to bringing thought leaders together, enhancing public engagement, and improving the user experience of complex global issues.

News Deeply journalists and technologists create in-depth digital platforms that serve as a hub of news, information and analysis.

News Deeply, pioneered a model called “Impact Publishing” –which is a combination of high-quality content and proactive community management. The platforms unite an audience of policymakers and domain specialists, connecting those who are most intimately involved in the topic at hand. Through interactive dialogues, virtual events and live convenings, we advance the conversation, leading to a more engaged public and better-informed policy decisions.

Setrakian said “The linear model of covering news and moving on to the next story meant we were leaving lots of great stories behind”.

Today the company operate another four sites with the similar form of Syria Deeply, named Arctic Deeply (a media project dedicated to covering Arctic issues), Water Deeply (designed to help to understand the complex web of environmental, social and economic issues contributing to the drought crisis in California), Refugees Deeply (designed to help to understand the complex web of geopolitical, human rights, environmental, legal and other factors combining to make the refugee issue one of the most challenging of our lifetimes) and Women and Girls (created with the support of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, with news coverage and community engagement focused on women & girls in the developing world).

Although News Deeply based in New York, reporters, editors, and other staff are scattered internationally. As regards the funding, it comes from multiple sources: live event sales, content syndication, sponsorships, venture funding from some of the best names in impact investment (Omidyar Network) and journalism (North Base Media — a media investment shop led by storied Washington Post editor Marcus Brauchli)has received $2.5 million.

Setrakian expressed intentions to continue to pursue new “Deeply” projects, and told Fast Company some potential subjects they are researching include Pakistan,Congo, Myanmar and Human Trafficing, all of which are important but underrepresented or poorly covered by mainstream news outlets.
