  1. Tell me about yourself and your business.
Cahaya, owner of Kedai Cengkrama, Bali, Indonesia

Hello! I’m Cahaya, and I turn 24 years old this year. I come from North Kalimantan, and I’m currently studying while running a business. In search of income to support myself, I went to Bali in 2019 and have worked in various jobs — as a preschool teacher, an admin in a travel agency, and sold ready cut chicken. I set up a coffee shop with a friend in August 2019, but as time passed by, there were lesser customers, and with Covid, we closed the shop in February 2020.

A few months later, in July 2020, my two other partners and I opened Kedai Cengkrama, a small restaurant. [Kedai means a shop/store.] Cengkrama means to chat, and we hope that people who come here will have deep chats with each other. Kedai Cengkrama sells Indonesian food such as nasi kuning (yellow rice), nasi pandan (pandan rice). Our best sellers are chicken curry, sambal fish, and sambal squid. The chicken curry is also often ordered together with the nasi kuning or lontong.

2. How did this business come about?
