so, tell me: what is Creativity for you?

A gift

some people say you are born creative and that is it. There is nothing you can do about it. If you are born without it, you can try to learn or just accept your fate.

A skill

some other people say that it is a skill that you can learn, just like riding a bike, you can practice and master it.

A phenomenon

where something new is born…

A cluster of disciplines

a bunch of knowledge put together creating new relations and concepts or products/services/ideas

There are several definitions and characteristics of creativity, and for me, you should choose the one that fits you better. There is no right or wrong, right?

The important thing is that creativity can open new doors, give you new lenses to solve challenges, and even give you a new way of thinking.

When we see a challenge, we have several ways to analyze it, to try to solve it, and the creative way is one of them.

By being creative, we can give the challenge the opportunity to become something positive, something new and different. Sometimes, when solving a challenge, we can be attached to the first option of the solution and don´t even consider to think of other options.

For me, a good example is when showing challenges to kids. They have such special lenses to see the world, almost no filter, and little bias on what would work or not in real life. They are, for me, a great example of creative power and how to solve challenges with creativity.

Kids usually have billions of ideas on how to solve puzzles, how to draw monsters, or even on how to eat spaghetti, and all these can be brought to the companies' worlds if we can keep our creativity and imagination flowing.

In our crazy busy routine, it would be amazing to have space for creative and imaginative tasks like:

  • drawing
  • painting
  • dancing
  • playing
  • coloring
  • knitting

Or anything that makes your brain juices flowing!

I understand that in these uncertain times, maybe we don´t have the right mind place or mood to do creative tasks, and that is ok! Creativity do not work if forced, so do not force yourself into being creative if it doesn´t feel it is the right timing.
