Finding joy and excitement in entrepreneurship

--

Three things are mentioned the most frequently when entrepreneurs are asked what they appreciate the most about entrepreneurship: i) the joy of creating something out of nothing, ii) the freedom and iii) the changing nature of it all.

Having spoken to and carried out interviews with some entrepreneurs, you get an idea of what they feel as if they appreciate the most about their experience of it all.

Creating something out of nothing

This may be what is mentioned the most frequently. You start off with nothing, and then, after months or years, there is a fully formed business.

A business with customers, with projects, and with ideas for development, as well as issues and challenges to overcome.

This may be a lot of work sometimes, but they feel as if it is worth it.

What is created is all derived from the work that they put in, and there is a tangible sense of accomplishment and pride.

Freedom

Freedom is also appreciated, some entrepreneurs experience a sense of freedom in waking up in the morning and going to their office.

Their office, in contrast to being employed and working for someone else.

In going to their office, they feel as though they have more freedom, autonomy and influence in their job.

Dynamism and change

The third most mentioned and appreciated part is perhaps the changing nature of it all.

No day is the other alike, there is always something new to manage or an opportunity to reach for, which may call for changing routines or new ideas.

All this change may be accompanied by new learning and new horizons, and sometimes the risks may be high and there may be a great deal of uncertainty.

This risk may call for some stability and composure just to be able to withstand that much uncertainty.

But then again, that is also what makes it interesting and rewarding.

Many more specific events

Just the joy of having done something by yourself and having created something may make for a sense of accomplishment and respectability, but there are also many other specific events in entrepreneurship that one could mention about.

Imagine creating and designing your own product, finding out if it is possible to find it and buy it or to make it.

Creating a business plan, putting together and streamlining an idea into a viable and credible operation, this calls for creativity, as well as a lot of work and coffee.

Then at a later stage, attending fairs is one of the more exciting parts of entrepreneurship.

Imagine designing a fair booth the way you want it, preparing your products and your pitch, perhaps preparing a special offer, and then finally setting up the booth at the fair.

All those people there, a lot of them will walk up to you, interested and asking about what you are up to at the fair.

Also meeting other entrepreneurs is very interesting, there is a constant sense of opportunity and possibility.

All these nooks and crannies of entrepreneurship are some examples of what makes it very stimulating and exciting.

To be fair though, these are sentiments expressed by entrepreneurs who have been able to create a somewhat larger business and realize a business idea. It is not at all certain that people in general will feel like this and have these experiences.

Still, entrepreneurship is often very interesting and stimulating.
