Bold, bright, animated, mobile: the top design trends right now

Design moves fast: minimalism one day, bright and busy the next.

Luckily, we have a team of reviewers who see hundreds of new items on Envato’s marketplaces every day, and they’re tapped in to latest trends in web design, code, video, and more. We asked them to share their insights for this month — here’s what they had to say.

1. Bold patterns

“I think 2017 is going to be about clean classic design,” said a reviewer on our GraphicRiver team. “Less wood and vintage, more bold geometry, warm bright colours and an emphasis on photos.”

For a more subtle look, try decreasing the opacity on these patterns. Clockwise from top: geometric typeface, gradient geometric backgrounds, and geometric shapes photo effect templates.

2. Website templates with big typography and off-canvas navigation

According to our Themeforest team, there’s been an increate in website templates with large typography, big images, off-canvas navigation by default, and lots of white space. These two templates, Kaster and Younger Blogger, were cited as particularly well-designed examples.

3. Animation everything

GIFs might be old news by now, but animation isn’t. Instead, we’re seeing subtle animation pop up in every aspect of design. In anything they’re doing, designers seem to be thinking: can I add some animation to this?

The answer seems to be yes — but should you? We’re fans of adding animation into PowerPoint templates and logo designs, but keep it within reason.

4. High-quality mobile games

“The one thing I’ve been noticing is the influx of high quality mobile games,” a reviewer on CodeCanyon told us. “Most of them are built using multi-platform frameworks like Buildbox or Construct so they work on both iOS and Android. And they’re usually pretty cheap as well.”

Did you know — on CodeCanyon, you can preview some of the games and play them online? Try your hand at: Raffle game, FlappyBot, Slot Machine the Fruits, Indiara and Skull Gold, Jumper, or BlackJack.

5. Apple Motion

Apple’s motion graphics editing software, Apple Motion, is often overshadowed by programs like Adobe’s After Effects. But with recent updates, it’s a software we’re seeing rise in popularity lately. Here’s a few standout templates for Apple Motion users:

6. Green, green, green

You’ve definitely heard that Greenery is the Pantone Color of the Year by now, right? Even if you’re not draping yourself in green-colored veils (like Beyonce), try refreshing your designs with green patterns and graphics.
