Design style: Hand-drawn-whimsical-watercolor-pastel-geometric patterns
A trend that’s hard to name, easy to recognize
Memphis design? Abstract geo? Mixed media? Watercolor shapes?
Webdesignernews declared in January that 80s flair would rule design in 2017, and so far, that seems to be somewhat true. One place we’re seeing an 80’s influence is in bright, geometric-style patterns.
Named ‘color splash’ by Irene Demetri — the designer behind Youandigraphics — these patterns have been seen everywhere from product packaging to the runway. It’s mid-century modern meets watercolor pastel, with an undated style that feels entirely unique of of-the-moment.
Here’s a collection of work by designers that fits this style — whatever it is.
