Technology is everything we build to interact with the world. From simple tools to languages, technology can assume many forms and shapes, crafted by the hands and will of human beings.

Cities are a human invention. So are technologies. In a sense, cities are technologies as well, made of thousands of other technologies seamlessly interacting with us. Yet sometimes unapparent, the way cities are modeled produce a direct impact on our daily lives. So, shouldn’t we have more informed discussions about unintended consequences caused by technologies?

The complexity achieved by technologies is proportional to the complexity of humans. Each of the technologies we create aims to solve problems —sometimes creating others —, simplify processes, or get us closer to reaching intricate goals.

Envisioning Cities

More than ever, technology is playing a pivotal role in defining the next steps the global society will take in the following years. Many cities worldwide have influenced small communities, and some metropolises even produced critical impacts affecting the whole world.

The future of cities means the future of human development, therefore so technologies do.

The narratives in which technologies appear are those marked by substantial changes.

This makes us see that technologies are nothing but catalyzers of innovations impacting human society.

Technologies do not appear in a void.

They are the spring of human development blended with the understanding of current needs, the memory of previous experiences, and craftiness to prove the feasibility of recent discoveries. Cities worldwide embody the synthesis of technology, where history allowed next generations to intervene in the years to come. By taking an in-depth look at how cities develop, it not only gives us tools to anticipate changes but to be prepared when they happen.

Envisioning Cities

Envisioning Cities decided to take one step ahead. Apart from being a platform for emerging technologies that explicitly affect cities, it also displays future narratives unleashed by historical technological developments. We invited writers worldwide to tell us a history of how we arrived at where we are, unveiling what seems to be invisible to the naked eyes.

We are continuously updating our platform with innovative solutions, grounded on what is happening now and what might happen tomorrow. Datacracy is one of many other scenarios containing dozens of recent discoveries we will disclose weekly. Stay up to date and lead the way to the future!

Yours sincerely,
Envisioning
