At EOS New York we are always working on simple and scalable solutions to make EOS more accessible to everyone and to help position it as the most valuable dApp platform on the planet. EOS has many strengths. One of those strengths is the absence of transactions fees which is paramount to designing seamless user-experiences for dApp users. Instead of transaction fees, staked EOS tokens grant you a claim to a minimum level of network resources. These resources are required to transact on the network and recharge over time. The problem is that many users don’t know how much of these resources each transaction takes. Have you staked enough for CPU? Net?

We can help with that.

We’re happy to introduce our latest tool, EOSCharge.io, which will help token-holders learn about resource management on EOS, display the average costs of various actions on-chain, and how many of those actions their account is capable of.

Very simply, input your account name and EOSCharge.io will output a custom report that shows how much “charge” you have in your account as well as the estimated number of actions your account can complete.

  • Number of Actions: based on your account’s current resources, you should be able to perform this action approximately this many times.
  • Account Name: This is the Account on the EOS Mainnet which hosts the smart contract containing this action.
  • Action: This is the name of the action contained in the Account which performs some work on the blockchain.
  • Avg CPU Cost: Based on our calculations, this is the average amount of CPU resources required to perform this action.
  • Avg NET Cost: Based on our calculations, this is the average amount of NET resources required to perform this action.

The Nuts & Bolts

We use a a MongoDB query that runs hourly and averages the CPU and NET resource costs experienced for every action performed on the EOS Mainnet within the previous 100,000 blocks (13.8 hours) across all Block Producers. The results of this query are exported and made available through EOS Snapshots (EOSSnapshots.io is a tool that empowers dApp developers to use more recent snapshots of EOS account balances for their airdrops). Both JSON and CSV formats are available there, should you like to play around with the data. Raw data that powers this tool can be found here.
