SQUAD UP

Hosted by: The House Slam at The Haley House Bakery Cafe and Mass LEAP

For the second year in a row, Mass LEAP & House Slam Boston are co-sponsoring a poetry slam competition match-up for the ages, all ages that is!

Mass LEAP (Literary Education & Performance) will be sending 5 of the most talented teen writers to the annual Brave New Voices International Festival in San Francisco. As a team send-off, the nationally renowned adult slam team, representing the House Slam at the Haley House has challenged the youngsters for city wide glory!

Both teams will be featuring incredible new individual and collaborative work. Members of the audience will be asked to judge without knowing that in reality, everyone wins when these remarkable voices hit the mic!

All donations will help send the youth team to Cali on July 18th, and the adult team to the National Poetry Slam, happening this August in Denver, Colorado.

Refreshments & merchandise will be available!

Morningstar Access — PreRegistration is Required

Morningstar Access offers children with special needs/medical needs the opportunity to visit the Museum at a time when there are only a few other visitors. At these times, we have a limit of 100 guests, and children and their families can explore the Museum with less concern about infections and large crowds. PreRegistration is Required.

Monday 7.17

Salsa Class On 2 for Beginners

Salsa Beginner

The New York Style Salsa On 2 Beginners Class will cover the history of salsa, musical background and structure, basic social/partnering dance technique and etiquette and basic salsa steps and partnering combinations. Also, the basics of Afro-Cuban dances will be discussed and taught as part of the curriculum. The class is designed for students with no dance background or experience, and it is not a requirement to have a partner.

This class will start the first Monday of each month and will go for 4 consecutive Mondays. Drop-ins are allowed only for the first two classes in a session. In order to participate on the 3rd and 4th classes, students are required to take at least one the first two classes. The class is from 7:00–8:30 pm and is in Studio 2.

Price: $15 drop-in; $55 for the full session of 4 classes.
