Ben Goertzel has many years of business experience in artificial intelligence and is the Founder and CEO of SingularityNET, Chairman of the OpenCog Foundation, Chief Scientist of Hanson Robotics, President of the American Society for General Artificial Intelligence, Chief Scientist of Mercury Health and Vice President of Humanity+, the world’s superhuman association. He is recognized worldwide as a leading AI expert and thinker, a software engineer and a serial entrepreneur who is leading the way in innovation in AI technology and blockchain.
He is also active in diverse areas of AI, including bioinformatics (lead AI advisor at Mozi Health), finance, national security, natural language processing, etc. Dr. Goertzel has published 150 scientific papers in AI and over 15 scientific books.
Dr. Goertzel also led Hanson Robotics in 2016 to create Sophia, the world’s first robot citizen, and in October 2017, Sophia “became” a citizen of Saudi Arabia, the first robot to receive citizenship of a country. In November 2017, Sophia was named the first-ever Innovation Champion by the United Nations Development Programme and the first non-human to receive UN designation.
After becoming a domain expert, Dr. Goertzel will collaborate with EpiK Protocol on healthcare knowledge graph architecture and AI big data construction to promote the development of decentralized AI and new digital economy, as well as provide guidance on building the EpiK AGI knowledge graph for the improvement and development of the AI domain knowledge graph.
In Dr. Goertzel’s eyes, the risk of AI is not as scary as Musk’s perception of “hijacking humanity,” but the real risk is the over-centralization. Dr. Goertzel observes that our most advanced AI technologies are in the hands of large corporations to maximize profits.
Historically, this has led to a disproportionate concentration of AI applications in areas such as marketing, sales, finance and economic speculation, rather than more for humanitarian applications. He fears that if this trend continues, the deployment of advanced AI could become more narrowly focused on achieving corporate interests, which would likely hinder human prosperity and spark crises and conflict.
In an interview in December 2020, Dr. Goertzel said that the future of AI lies in “decentralization”. He “hopes that one day it will be possible to provide most AI services through the blockchain, so that access to advanced AI can be democratized and prevent any government or corporate monopoly on control of AI systems.” Dr. Goertzel has successfully developed a decentralized AI product. Unlike Sophia, Grace is a strong AI domain helper focused on healthcare.
