Episource’s industry leading risk adjustment epiAnalyst product is now available for Medicaid! Hot on the heels of the 2.0 release of epiAnalyst in September 2020, the team began working on a version of the product for Medicaid. The front-end application code is largely shared between products, so the interface will be familiar for users of the Medicare product. Behind the curtain though, a new API, suspecting engine, and data pipeline are feeding the new product.

The initial launch prioritizes the most important features that epiAnalyst offers, including member and provider indices, advanced search, and report downloads. Let’s take a look at each one for more detail!

Member Features

The member index, when combined with our powerful advanced search, allows our users to slice and dice member populations based on whatever criteria they deem is important. The filtered results from the index may be downloaded as a CSV, or saved within the application for future retrieval.

The member index is also one of many gateways into a member’s details page, where our users can review a high level snapshot about a given member, their dates of service, and risk score.

If deeper insights about a member are needed, head on over to the chronic codes registry tab where a member’s codes, suspect sources, and associated dates of service can be reviewed, filtered, and exported.

Provider Features

The provider index offers all of the same features as the members index but adds a quick inspect feature so that users can review aggregate information about a provider at a glance.

Navigating to a provider’s details page will offer a familiar highlights listing for providers and quick access to their top ten member opportunities for the fiscal year.

epiAnalyst provider details

The members tab from a provider details page will allow users to browse, filter, and export a provider’s members based on eligibility and the provider’s relationship to the member (PCP or Specialist).

Report Features

The initial launch of the Medicaid product includes six valuable report exports where our users can quickly download commonly queried data about members and codes for a given fiscal year.

Technical Improvements

Ever in pursuit of more performant, scalable, and secure systems, the team took lessons we learned from developing epiAnalyst 2.0 and continued to improve the platform. The Medicaid product replaces Medicare’s excellent REST API with a more flexible GraphQL interface. Performance improvements such as caching and asynchronous work-loads were also heavily leveraged during the development of the Medicaid application. The good news doesn’t stop there though, our Medicare and Medicaid teams are in constant communication so improvements to one application are often quickly adopted by the other!

In the coming months the team will continue to launch new features and improvements for all of our users, including dashboards, lists, and campaigns. We’re very excited about this initial offering and can’t wait to see how our users interact with the product!
