Dell is a global company that develops, sells repairs, designs, manufactures PCs and related services and products. Dell is one of the world largest technological corporations suppliers of PCs. In 1984, Michael Dell is a student from University of Texas in Austin built first PCs limited. Only from his dorm room he running the business. Dell offer customized upgrades for personal computers. Dell dropped out of university and began focus on run his business built PCs.

The company produced Turbo PC, the first computer featuring Dell’s own design, in 1985. Dell selling and creating custom built personal computers directly to consumers according to consumer selection. Initially Dell sold its products by advertised in national computer magazines.

Dell emphasized customer support by offering high quality PCs at competitive prices to eschew the costs associated with traditional retail markets. The company became more successful and quickly expand into global markets. In 1987, the company dropped PCs Limited name and renamed to Dell Computer Corporation in 1988.

The first notebook computer that Dell provided is 316LT, in 1989, and following years the company do improvements in mobile technology until 1991 Dell sell first colour notebook. Dell is the first company who offer long-lasting lithium-ion batteries. In 1999, the biggest success for Dell is when succeed to overtake the Compaq Computer Corporation the most sizably voluminous PC manufacturer.

In 2005, Dell’s sales went down due to Acer and Hewlett-Packard made their assembling tasks progressively effective to compete Dell. Dell had a decline in consumers purchasing PCs through the phone and on web due to consumer prefer to visit electronic retails stores to try the devices first before they make decision to buy it. Acer, HP and gateway was the Dell rivals in the electronics industry. Others company capitalize on the consumer shift because they had more retail presence than Dell.

Since 2002, Dell’s reputation became poor in customer services. Dell moved it called center offshore and its magnification outstripped its technical support infrastructure. In 2000, the company could not legitimize that degree of service when PCs could not be sold like before. There was also complaint that Dell used defect components for its desktop computers OptiPlex that sold to businesses and government.

In 2006, Sony was found responsible for the faulty batteries that make Dell laptop catching fire and Dell need to retract the battery back. In 2006, Dell development became slowest than others in PC industry. Hewlett Packard got the denomination of the most immense PC manufacturer. Dell lost this title due to it slow growth and criticism from consumers regarding Dell products and services.

In conclusion, Dell products fail on the PC industry because it does not know how to attract customer to look into their innovation of new product. It also can fail internally because implementation, marketing and development do not function perfectly. The idea can be perfect and good, but if the innovation process does not work, it will failed.
