Climate chaos, genocidal resource wars, and general collapse all vie to supplant nuclear MAD(Mutually Assured Destruction) as the statically inevitable doom we face.
For most of our existence, our fears were fantasies created and fanned by our leaders to justify their privileged position. Now, they have managed to manifest in the real world.
Of course, once upon a time, there may have been other options but that discourse seems irrelevant speculation on a hypothesis.
What options do we have now?
First, a significant and growing possibility exists that we are AGI(Artificial General Intelligence)/ASI(Artificial Super Intelligence) NFCs(Non-Fungible Characters) in a computer simulation. This seems the only way to “get out of here alive”.
We now live on a “hothouse” Earth and are subject to run-a-way global climate chaos and extinction. The co-extinction of species we depend on for survival will make all mammals extinct before 5C of warming.
Second, to the extent that we’re meat suits, we can not survive in space as a species nor is another livable planet accessible before this one becomes unlivable.
The technologies for a complete cyborgization of our biology or uploading our consciousnesses have yet to be invented. Until then, we have limited options for a legacy beyond a thin radioactive stratum of plastic in Earth’s geologic history.
If you want to wander around in a denial fugue state cultivating cynical ennui then stop reading now.
Our meat suits can not adjust to space travel. Whatever technology you throw at it to solve the multiple problems of human space travel would also make Earth livable again. Think about that.

The Future Is Digital
Of course, we will all be represented as line items in databases used to train AI(Artificial Intelligence) but not recoverable as personalities except for the occasional AI hallucination.
The best one can do now is build an NFC AGI/ASI assistant as a digital clone of your best self. There has already been a long tradition in the arts of training assistants to carry on an artist’s work.
