An opportunity to receive micro-grants of $100: Apply or share with Black and Latinx youth under the age of 26!

The COVID-19 pandemic has shifted social norms and exposed the deep-rooted inequities that permeate the sectors of education, health & healthcare, government & public service, and media & technology. With recent reports, such as Chicago and Milwaukee County disclosing the fatality numbers of COVID-19 disproportionately impacting Black folks, the urgency continues to support Black and Latinx communities as they face asymmetric racial, health, and economic inequities that limit social, economic, and cultural growth.

Creative Reaction Lab, which focuses on educating, training and challenging Black and Latinx youth to become leaders designing healthy and racially equitable communities, believes that there is no better time than now, to support our youth both emotionally and financially during these trying times. As a response to the heightened structural inequities impacted by our current state, this month we are launching the Youth Creative Leadership Fund (YCLF) to financially assist youth, their families, and their community members. As of July 9, 2020, up to 242 young individuals will be selected to each receive $100 across three categories.* Below is more information about the three categories in which youth can apply for funds:

  1. Self-Care + Personal Finances
Youth who need direct help with personal/family needs to pay for necessities and self-care, such as food, toiletries, etc., can apply for this set of funds. Winners will be randomly selected from the pool of applicants.
  2. Creative Expression for Community Support
Youth interested in developing a creative response (e.g. video, podcast recording, visual art, etc.) to COVID-19 that amplifies interaction or dialogue with their community members can apply for this set of funds. Based on the content of their applications, winners will be evaluated on the potential community impact and their personal passion for the project.
  3. Pass it On!
Youth who wish to pass on the $100 micro-grant to support someone else impacted by COVID-19 can apply for this set of funds. Winners will be randomly selected from the pool of applicants.

We ask that youth complete this short application by April 22, 2020 at 11:59PM CDT. Applicants can only apply for one category of funds. (That is, an applicant must choose to apply for only one of the following: Self-Care + Personal Finances, Creative Expression for Community Support, or Pass It On!)

Winners will be notified in early May with the $100 being dispensed by mid-May via Venmo, CashApp, or VISA gift cards.

Furthermore, for winners who provide an update on how they used their finances (and if relevant, what creative intervention they made) within three months after receiving it, they will be entered into a raffle to win an additional $500.
