Trump Voters Are Incapable of Love

Trump voters cannot say they love their friends or family then vote for their fundamental rights to be taken away.

“You shouldn’t let politics come between your marriage or your friendships.”

“You’re immature if you’re going to end a relationship with someone who doesn’t agree with your politics.”

Excuse me while I roll my eyes.

When politics isn’t just politics

Every time I see these sentiments online or hear them in person, I groan. They are probably the most dismissive and obtuse things that anyone can say. Anyone who spouts these positions is steeped in privilege because those who believe them have less to lose if the rights of marginalized people are stripped from them.

Politics is more than just a discussion over how much money our education system gets or how our tax code should be written. Your political beliefs define your values and your character.

For instance, when anyone says they voted for Donald Trump, it tells me all I need to know about that person. If that person is white, their vote indicates that they probably are just as incompetent, mean-spirited, bigoted, and boorish as Donald Trump. Their vote indicates that they…
