Using a Liberatory Framework During Times of Retrenchment: The Left-Hand Analogy

During our current Trumpian era, we have witnessed the administration rolling back many of the advancements for which those of us within progressive movements and those who have gone before us have fought tirelessly.
I have talked with many progressive people who are feeling bewildered and betrayed by a nation they love but seems not to love the work they have done in bringing the United States closer to its promises and its potential.
I must admit that at times I too have felt that my life’s work has been reversed by two presidential elections bringing Donald Trump and his MAGA movement to the Oval Office.
What keeps me focused, though, is something I learned many decades ago: that political burnout occurs when one has unrealistic expectations. In this regard, that unreality amounts to the perspective that progressive social change proceeds in a linear direct line in forward motion.
