Fighting for your life on multiple fronts is something every law student can relate to. If the stress of trying to remember cases with ridiculously long names does not get to you, attendance issues will be after your life. Do not get me started on those devilish electives without textbooks (and lecturers that like to gatekeep their materials).

You should know that the LSS is committed to caring for your health; be it physical, mental, emotional, or even spiritual. This is why Law Health Week exists and another edition is here. It is spearheaded by the current Welfare Secretary, Ikhiede Janet, and is running from the 20th to the 26th of May, 2023.

Our Welfare Madam at the aerobics session, looking sweet as usual.

On Saturday morning, it kicked off with an aerobics session in the faculty with personal trainer and fitness enthusiast, Kenny. In the afternoon, there was a friendly football match between the current executives of the LSS and law students. Saturday was focused on the upkeep of the physical health of law students because if you are constantly moving, your demons can’t catch up to you.

Staying hydrated and staying healthy, I know that’s right.

Here are the other activities lined up for the rest of the health week:

  • Today (23rd, May 2023)

There will be a Twitter space for oral and nutritional health. Be sure to tune in and follow the LSS Twitter page, @lssunilag. You can rant and laugh about shared struggles with other law students. You will also get tips on how to make your breath stay fresher for longer so your crush does not turn away when you are trying to shoot your shot.

  • Wednesday, 24th May 2023.

There will be two different physical sessions on mental and sexual health at the Law Annex. The first is by Dr. Adekunle Abiona who is the Chief Medical Director of Spinex Global Resources. He will be speaking about having safe sex. Come armed with questions, no matter how weird or embarrassing.

The second will be given by representatives of the Anti-Suicide and Depression Squad (ASADS). They will give us tips on how to deal with the pressure of being a law student. You know you need it so show up!

In addition to this, there will be a blood drive, free HIV tests, free Hepatitis-B screening, and even giveaways. There will also be a chance to get the vaccination for Hepatitis-B for the very small fee of twokay. Give back to the world by donating and also make sure your health is in top-ship shape.

  • Thursday, 25th May 2023.

Year 2 students, go and write Contract test. There will be no events so you guys don’t miss out on anything.

  • Friday, 26th May 2023.

Friday is the grand finale and there will be a closed-door therapy session at the Law Annex for both male and female students.

Mentally Aware Nigeria Initiative (MANI) has provided a Google form for people struggling with their mental health to speak to a trained volunteer. Use the code UNILAG LSS for a referral.

You can see that the LSS cares about you. Come and listen to the sessions, do tests, donate your blood, and talk about the things weighing on your mind.

I know you have been wondering and yes, there will be refreshments provided on all the days we have physical sessions.

P.S: If you are reading this and you know your name is hard to spell or pronounce, please stay out of trouble and court cases. Law students all over the world will appreciate it.

See you on the Twitter space today and the rest of the Health Week. You will not regret coming!
