We’re halfway through 2023 butttt it’s never too late to make new rules and resolutions. Make more money? Find love? Up your grades?

How about dumping these fashion trends?

Your style may just be hindering you from securing that bag or bae. I’ve scavenged long and hard and collated these fashion trends you should absolutely leave behind.

Biker shorts

Biker shorts are skin-tight shorts originally worn by cyclists for comfort. They’re basically worn for sports, athletics, and, as fashion evolved, for gyming. Now, women wear them as part of an actual outfit on oversized T-shirts, cropped or fitted tops. Asin tight? When I see them, I just think of underwear.

Designer on designer

Osheyy Akoka Migos. Offset sef no do pass you. I think this is an increasingly popular tacky fashion trend to wear multiple brands in one outfit. I mean, two at most is pretty decent. But when you start wearing Gucci top, Nike pants, Dior slippers, and Puma gele with very visible logos, you begin to like a masquerade misplaced at Paris Fashion Week (or a Yeezy model; I can’t seem to differentiate the two these days.) Wearing designer outfits is great, but it’s not a measure of great style. And we both know it’s fake you’re wearing.

Braided wigs

Braided wigs are those fashion items that were useful before the evolution of the lush wigs but have outlived their purpose. To be frank, there are some really good ones but for the majority, they look fake, and chaotic and give the illusion that you had a botched double head surgery. Your head would look swollen like what Pinocchio would look like if his head grew instead of his nose. Above all, they don’t photograph well. If you can afford a really good braided wig, you should just get bone straight instead. Much better use for your money.

Sneakers on native

I know the Yoruba demon urge to wear sneakers on naive but pls, Tunde, desist from these acts. There’s just something about a full trad outfit that hits every right spot.

Yeezy Foam Runners

Ok so I started seeing these from last year and I just want to know who started this trend so I can report to Yaba left (Oh, Kanye! No wonder). It is definitely a maniac behavior to wake up, dress up and now wear a rubber basket on your legs. It is a valid reason for breakup because you must have no serious ambition walking around Nigeria like that.

Durag

Even my mommy’s scarf would’ve looked better on this ‘fit.

We all know someone that won’t feel okay if they don’t tie durag on their head. I have nothing against you people that wear it o. In fact, it’s great for sporting waves and on a bad hair day. But in terms of making it your personality, it’s not the fashion statement you think it is. Except you’re trying to hide your dandruff, you have no business tying durag on white and black o. Let’s leave this in 2022. Tenks.

Black upper lips

If there’s any female fashion trend I want dead and buried, it’s these ojuju lips you people do. You should blend your upper lips with the bottom and that means you should use a dark brown pencil. It just doesn’t look good most times. The only reason you should use a black pencil is if you’re auditioning for a role on Africa Magic Epic.

Fluffy slippers

Girrllll, be for real!

Fluffy. Slippers. Are. Not. Meant. To. Be. Worn. Outside! Just in your room and house. I have no more words for this one.

AirPods

AirPods are seriously killing the youths😭 They’re not fashion accessories, for the umpteenth time. At least fear for your hearing nau! Your mom is right. How can you hear word if your ears are always blocked? People buy AirPods/earbuds suddenly and wear them 24/7 like they’re earrings. Before you take that picture, pls remove that thing in your ear.

Honorable mention: Curly braids

Before you eat me raw, this is me on curly braids.

I know curly braids have all the girlies on chokehold and to be fair, they look really good. Butttt this doesn’t last long. My braids were only two days old in that picture and they had already roughened. It’s too high maintenance and the beauty lasts for just a millisecond. However, we’re not totally cutting off curly braids. I’d just personally not be doing them as often.
