I finally learned how to draw my brows.

It’s another Impact Empowerment week! If you attended the first session or read the first article about the scheme, you’ll know what the scheme is all about. But if this is your first time and you are wondering what the Empowerment scheme is all about, here is your chance to find out!

This year, the Law Students Society introduced a scheme — the Impact Empowerment Scheme — which will be held once in two weeks. The aim is to bring to the fingertips of law students, skills which they are interested in. Its first session was held on Saturday, the 22nd of January, 2022 with the theme — CODING 101, for the tech bros and ladies in the faculty.

The second session, which was themed BASICS OF MAKE-UP was held on Saturday, 5th of February, 2022. It was facilitated by Adetutu Gomez, a 400-level law student who is an expert in the makeup industry and a video content creator. Unlike the first session which was a lecture on coding and its branches, this session was a practical one.

Due to the electricity issues in the university, the venue had to be moved from NIALS to the Law Lounge. As a result, the program started at 9:30 am. The first thing the facilitator did was to set up her ring light and her makeup tools.

Next, in her own words, “you have to prepare your face to receive the make-up”. Hm, that struck something in me. As someone who paints sometimes, I know that one thing I cannot do is to paint on a dirty canvass. This is because I want my colors to be as vibrant by the time I’m done painting. She started by using baby wipes to clean the model’s face. After which she used a hydrating primer to make her (the model’s) face moisturized. Adetutu emphasized the use of a primer because it would “give an even texture, and keep one’s makeup in place”. She continued by describing the various types of brushes and their uses. So trust me when I tell you I know better than to use a beauty blender to apply eyeshadow or use a tapered powder brush instead of a contour brush. *Winks glamourously*.

Tutu showed adroitness with the way she used her make-up products and brushes. From her usage of the foundation to the concealer, highlighter, powder, eye pencil, lipgloss, and even the false lashes. It was done with such swiftness and knowledge. When she proceeded to use the setting spray, everything chorused expertise. Despite this fact, she was able to take everyone through what she was doing and also stopped at intervals to answer questions and even ask questions to see if the students could remember the things she had previously stated. She just made us see that applying make-up isn’t really as hard as we think it is.

I enjoyed the program ( I was the model, so why not🙈🥱😙?). However, it was quite unfortunate that there weren’t a lot of people, especially our ladies. I truly hope that after reading this, you’ll set your reminder, plan, and prepare to come for the next Impact Empowerment Scheme because it’s gonna be lit!

See you there!
