Word on the street is that the Inter-Chamber Games are fast approaching. The second instalment of the Games is set to kick off on the 22nd of January, and students are gearing up to represent and support their Chamber in the battle for the ultimate bragging rights.

Let’s take a look at the challengers.

Justice Oputa Students’ Chamber

Laolu, LSS President and Oputa midfielder

Oputa Nation goes into this edition as the holders and defending champions, so needless to say, all eyes are on them. They are the highest goalscorers in the history of the competition and are the only Chamber who have never conceded a goal. Being a team famed for their haram football style, they would be relying on the faculty’s №1, Gerald, and defensive powerhouse, Tobani.

After losing a few of their star players to other Chambers, would they successfully defend their title, or would they falter? A Nation and a Faculty await.

Gani Fawehinmi Students’ Chamber

Sir Bobby, Gani Striker

Gani FC, the self-acclaimed “best chamber,” would be looking to put last edition’s disappointment behind them and claim the gold this year. To do that, the HOC has searched the length and breadth of the Faculty, for the best players to add to his squad. As at the time of writing, the author can confirm that 9 new players have been poached from other Chambers.

While they’d be led by veteran goalie, Utty, Law 23’ skipper and LSS Sport Secretary, Bally, and the prolific Sir Bobby, it’s left to be seen if the new additions to the squad would produce the desired result. With the weight of expectation on them, I guess we’d truly see if “nobody does it better.”

Justice Kayode Eso Students’ Chamber

Babatola, the HOC, plotting his next move.

The Eso People are gunning for glory and aching to prove their doubters wrong. To do that, they will be relying on the link up play of Omorosi, De Game, Chinedu and Wale.

Omorosi, a graceful dribbler and one of the best №10s in the Faculty, if not the whole school, is going to be a thorn in the flesh of any defender brave enough to face him. Wale is a left-back and is an integral part of how the Class of 2021 plays. By running tirelessly up-and-down the flanks, he contributes both in attack and defense. De Game is the defensive marshal of the squad. Naturally, he plays a defensive midfielder but he can also fill in as centre-back if needed. The trio have played together for almost 6 years and that counts for something. To top it all, they have a midfield maestro in Babatola, who happens to be the HOC. Can the Big Boys claim a big win?

Taslim Elias Students’ Chamber

TEC Squad during a training session

The TEC Kings would be looking to win this edition’s Games and show that they’re more than just intellectuals. Their hopes rest on the defensive prowess of Bunmi and AJ. Bunmi, also known as Bunmi Bus Stop, is known for his relentlessness and efficiency. Ken Wali, the HOC, claims that Bunmi makes defending look like an art. AJ, on the other hand, is a juggernaut and a leader at the back. With an exceptional ability to read the game, he would likely be the one who controls the tempo on the pitch.

In front, they have Agu Justin, also known as El Capitano. He is as rugged and skillful as they come. If opposition defenders didn’t have enough problems, they also have to deal with the lightning-quick pace of IBK. Could this be TEC’s year? Will the Kings take the crown?

Player Transfers

HOCs have been on the rampage, trying to recruit the best talent in the Faculty, while retaining the talent they have. They are aware of what is at stake — bragging rights for a whole year — so it’s expected that everyone wants the best. While some transfers are still being negotiated, some have been completed.

  1. Chinexx

The №7 forward of the Class of 2021, Chinexx, whose real name is Chinedu, made the shocking switch from Oputa Chambers to Eso Chambers. With his silky movement, creativity and technicality, it is not a surprise that he was highly-coveted by other Chambers. The surprise is his decision to leave the reigning Champions. Could this be a sign that all isn’t well in the Oputa team?

2. Yomi

Yomi is on pink

Yomi made the decision to switch allegiance by dumping TEC for Gani. The fast, lethal №9 forward of the Class of 2022, was poached with the sole purpose of scoring as many goals as possible against the opposition. With a track record like his and a squad like Gani’s, that shouldn’t be too difficult.

3. Yemi

The Year 5 defender was rumoured to have joined Gani Chambers from Oputa but apparently, did a U-Turn back to Oputa for reasons best known to him.

4. Justin

The Year 4 skipper also almost joined Gani Chambers but at the last minute, decided to remain in TEC. He allegedly even had a training session with the Gani squad.

Other transfers: free agents

  1. Zenith, year 2 (transferred to Gani)
  2. Taiwo, year 4 (transferred to Gani)
  3. James, year 4 (transferred to Gani)
  4. Faruq, year 3 (transferred to Gani)
  5. Jide, year 2 (transferred to Gani)
  6. Ladi, year 3 (transferred to Gani)
  7. Jason, year 3 (transferred to Gani)
  8. Seyi, year 3 (transferred to Gani)
  9. Dennis, year 2 (transferred to Gani)
  10. Leno, year 3 (transferred to Eso)

Who do you think would claim the win at this year’s Inter-Chamber Games? Will it be your Chamber?

Let us know in the comments. Rep your Chamber, loudly and proudly.
