In Greece, nowadays, politics have been plagued by ongoing challenges, including issues of corruption, inefficiency, and polarization. Citizens have grown increasingly disillusioned with the political landscape, as public trust in elected officials has waned due to perceived shortcomings. Economic hardships, coupled with political scandals, have further strained the relationship between the government and its people (47,17 % abstention). In this situation, there is a pressing need for reform and renewed efforts to address the concerns of the Greek population, with a focus on transparency, accountability, and effective governance to rebuild trust in our political institutions.

Democracy is not merely a system of governance; it is a way of life. At the heart of a thriving democracy lie active citizens, who understand that their voices and actions matter, both on a national and European scale. This is where the Erasmus program comes into play, empowering young people to become catalysts of positive change.

In today's globalized world, active citizenship transcends borders. Erasmus+ Youth Exchanges provide a platform for young Europeans to connect, exchange ideas, and form bonds that extend beyond their national boundaries. This fosters a sense of belonging to a broader European community and a shared responsibility for its future.
Participating in these exchanges equips young adults with the skills, knowledge, and cross-cultural awareness necessary for actively engaging in democratic processes. They learn to appreciate diverse perspectives, challenge stereotypes, and collectively address the pressing challenges of our time.

At the national level, active citizens drive change by voting, engaging in civil discourse, and advocating for policies that reflect the values they hold dear. They understand that democracy is not a spectator sport but a participatory endeavor.

As we look ahead to the future, it's clear that nurturing active citizens is vital, not only for the well-being of individual nations but also for the strength of the European project. Youth Exchanges will play a crucial role in shaping a future where young people are informed, engaged, and empowered, ready to contribute to the vibrant tapestry of European democracy. Every democracy thrives on the collective strength of its active citizens.
