Seaweed, or edible algae, is very important in the daily diet in Japan, Korea and China, and it is becoming more and more common in the West. This is why this Superfood from the sea is a great addition to a healthy diet:

High in iodine, something many women (and men) are deficient in, with some even calling it Britain’s hidden nutrition crisis:

  • Drives our metabolism to convert food into energy and keep us burning calories at a normal rate.
  • Vital for a good functioning of the thyroid gland that plays a huge role in governing our metabolism.

A source of satisfying fibre to keep you fuller for longer.

Contains antioxidant compounds like zinc. manganese and vitamin C, keeping your skin glowing, healthy and counteract signs of ageing.

As Sharon O’Brien expands on her evidence based article: “7 Surprising Health Benefits of Eating Seaweed” which you can read here. “Seaweed is highly nutritious, so a little goes a long way”, O’Brien adds.

Itsu, one of my favourite brands because it makes healthy food affordable and easy to eat, provides very practical small packets of seaweed thins perfect as a snack and to complement lunches. They are available on any Itsu branch and major supermarkets.

However, too much iodine from seaweed could harm your thyroid function. For optimum health benefits, enjoy this ancient ingredient in regular but small amounts.
