Esports today is far more than a way to earn fame and money by playing games at a professional level, it’s a full value career in one of the fastest growing industries in the world.

And the only way to become a professional esports athlete is to compete at the international championships. So how to get involved in your first tournament? Here are some strategies, that can help you to get into the world of esports.

1️⃣ Join local tournaments.
To compete at local tournaments is for sure one of the easiest ways to get a practical experience. You might (and probably will) lose at the beginning, but it will only make you a stronger player and prepare mentally for some really big tournaments ahead.

2️⃣ Practice, practice, practice…
To be an esports professional player means to put it prior anything else. You need hundreds of hours of practice to achieve the skill level needed for a career in esports. Hint: list the things that you should improve on (e.g. speed, reaction time, game knowledge), and soon you will become the first at any local tournament.

3️⃣ Focus on a single game.
It’s important to find a game you can play alone, without being dependant on your team members. Some of the most popular esports games today are RTS (e.g. StarCraft), FPS (e.g. Overwatch), various fighting games, card games (e.g. Hearthstone), and MOBAs like Dota 2 and League of Legends.

4️⃣ Invest in good equipment.
At some point, the right equipment can become the difference between winning and losing. Read our article on the issue on: bit.ly/2OfPUbr

5️⃣ Select your team and study their tactics.
Watching videos and live streams from seasoned players helps to understand the game behind the curtain: all the tactics and techniques. YouTube and Twitch are, undoubtedly, the most popular ways for that. It will be a good idea to find a team for yourself as well. Thus, you can get some free equipment and other freebies, as well as meet players who can teach you something you didn’t know before.

6️⃣ Follow esports websites and conferences.
It can be difficult to keep up with all the news from esports, so you should not only find websites that keep you updated, but also visit the biggest esports conferences and summits, so you could start building your reputation and meet other players and teams’ representatives.
