The Process

How to enjoy the process of personal growth and fulfilment in creativity and work

A phrase I’ve personally been trying to really treasure is “value the process”, or “enjoy the journey”, between meditation and reading books, I’ve really been trying to value the moment and small victories more. But I could not quite get it because, for my ‘fulfilment’ oriented mindset, the end is the journey.

I thought about what periods of my life when I had struggled to enjoy the process, and how did they differ to the moments that, although not consciously recognised, I valued a lot. Here are the three actions that make up the process, that sums up what I discovered and what we need to do to begin enjoying the journey:

1) Learning / Finding

School is not for everybody, which means for many people they have to find their passion and themselves outside of academics. I didn’t learn leadership at GCSEs or talk about personal development in the playground or at University, however, I did find my passion when I joined a volunteer program, specifically aimed at leadership and personal development.

When you do find that industry or skill that you’re passionate about, understanding theories, practising and networking, talking about it with like-minded people becomes second nature.

2) Creating

Now that you’re equipped, the process of using your skills to create something of your own is thrilling. I love creating blogs, templates and workshops that innovate on the building blocks of what I’ve learned already.

Whether it’s innovating or finding solutions to problems, finding a way to stimulate and stir those creative juices is a key part of the process.

3) Delivering: Sharing & Impact

The period of time in my career where I didn’t deliver workshops, I felt like I wasn’t using 30% of my abilities. I thrive off the energy when I share something that people resonate with. Seeing how people react and respond when you meet a deadline or finish a course is a powerful moment. If there’s anything to be learnt from the world of gymnastics, it’s the principle that how you finish, matters, which is even more reason to enjoy practising the ending.

Finding yourself, creating new things with the skills or ideas you’ve learned and sharing the impact, are parts of ‘The Process’ that we must enjoy if we are to endure the journey to our goals and fulfilment.
