These are three types of logos:

  • Wordmark
  • Logotype
  • Brandmark

Each has their own use and can be used separately or together depending on how you want to brand it.

Wordmark:

A wordmark is a text-based logo and is the most straightforward in terms of its design. To create one, you would select your typeface (font for newbs) and set it in your text. To make it stand out and be unique, it’s common to play around with the kerning and tracking of each letter for balance or alter the shape:

Logotype:
